Find enlightenment on your yoga mat at SANGYÉ YOGA SCHOOL

A well-established West London institution for bodhisattva’s in training, Sangyé Yoga School was re-incarnated in early 2016, after 11 years of being known as Jivamukti Yoga London. Sangyè is a Tibetan word for Buddha or ‘awakened’ and the practice is focussed on connecting body, speech (breath) and mind to uncover the human potential utilizing the context of yoga and meditation practice. Offering ever-changing and challenging vinyasa sequences, hands-on assists, alongside teachings to awaken the buddha within.

Straight talking Cat Alip-Douglas is the tattoo covered Sangyé Yoga School co-architect (with husband Phil, the owner). They assumed complete “ownership” of the school in spring 2010. A former Condé Nast New York girl, Cat exchanged designer high heels for earth-connected bare feet when she moved to London in 2005 . Her monthly sequences are set to a contemporary soundtrack paired with pockets of silence to house the sound of the breath, while her inspiring dharma chat throughout the class may remind students of the nature of impermanence and the relativity of all phenomena, all delivered in a no nonsense and with a sense of humour, a prerequisite for her class. Taking regular workshops and retreats with Phil, both also run a rigorous and respected 6 month teaching training course at the school. Great consideration is taken before an applicant is invited onto the course.

Sangyé Yoga School offers Vinaysa, Jivamukti and Yin classes, from basic to experienced level. Workshops are also regularly hosted by resident and curated visiting teachers who hold a similar ethos to SYS, for those wanting to delve deeper into their practice, beyond the self-soothing surface.
