London, 20th October: Sangyé Yoga School Screening Event for Animal Rights Documentary, DOMINION.
Updated: Jun 24, 2020
The feature-length film, directed by Chris Delforce and co-produced by Earthlings Director Shaun Monson, is narrated by the likes of Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, and Sia. Exposing the dark underbelly of modern animal agriculture, while exploring the morality and validity of human dominion over the animal kingdom. The film is advocating not for minor improvements to animal welfare, but for a deeper conversation about our right to exploit those we deem inferior to ourselves.
Having made its UK debut in summer 2018, Dominion is being screened by Sangyé Yoga School on SATURDAY 20TH OCTOBER, FROM 3pm. In an effort to raise awareness of the exploitative farming industry, and funds for Dominion Movement Action Team.
Yoga practitioners aim to adhere to the concept of ‘Ahimsa’ or non-violence in an inclusive vs. exclusive way, which means recognising all sentient beings as deserving of freedom from suffering. Sangyé’s teachers encourage students to mindfully consider how everyday choices have consequences. This screening is one of the ways the school reinforces that ethos.
Starting with an optional one hour open yoga class at 3pm, vegan refreshments will be served before the screening starts at 4.20pm. Followed by a short Tonglen meditation led by Cat Alip-Douglas.
Cat Alip-Douglas, Co-Director of Sangyé Yoga School, with her husband Phil said:
“To show films such as Dominion (and Earthlings) usually doesn’t earn a yoga studio the ‘most popular’ vote, as a matter of fact, probably quite the opposite. We, as human beings, are hard-wired to make life as convenient and as pleasant as possible and seeing such films is far from that. One could say that the yoga practice also pushes self-imposed or culturally ingrained boundaries to reveal our potential to rise, individually and collectively, to welcome change. Sangyé in Tibetan means ‘awakened (from ignorance)’ so it makes sense that we live up to that as a school, even if it’s challenging. Isn’t that why students practice yoga to begin with?”
Situated in Ladbroke Grove, Sangyé Yoga School has been operating since 2005 (formerly as Jivamukti Yoga London). Sangyé Yoga School offers Vinyasa (levels 1/2/3), Jivamukti and Yin classes.
